Betting for Poker

Check

A check passes the action to the next player. If all players check, the next card is turned and the player's options repeat.

Bet

Initiating action by placing a bet.

Fold

You fold when the cards that you hold are so lousy that to remain in the game would spell certain doom. Correct way to fold: You gently place your cards in front of you face down on the table. Incorrect way to fold: You launch into a string of superlatives and demonstrably throw your cards into the air while pushing yourself away from the table in tears.

Call

In order to call you are required to contribute the equivalent amount of chips as the other players since your last bet. The player to the left of the dealer has the ability to check because the value of the pot has not been established. This is applicable on the first round of betting.

Raise

Similar to a call except this time you get to increase the value of your bet when the chance to do so arises since the last time you bet. This is a good strategy if you feel that you have a strong hand or want to see who's bluffing and who's not. There is generally a maximum limit that you can raise per round. q

Full Tilt Poker is an online poker card room launched in June 2004 with the involvement of a team of poker professionals, among them Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Jennifer Harman and Chris Ferguson. The service can be reached via two web domains, fulltiltpoker.com, and fulltiltpoker.net, where players can choose to gamble with real or play money. Recently the Fulltilt.com domain went up for sale and was purchased by the online poker site as their own. This domain now directs players to the original website, fulltiltpoker.com Full Tilt offers both Windows and Mac software with equal features. Games offered include Texas hold 'em, Omaha High and Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven Card Stud, Stud Hi-Lo, and mixed games including H.O.R.S.E., HOSE, and HA (Hold'em and Omaha). Tournaments take place throughout the day and often include participation from one of the Team Full Tilt pros. Freeroll tournaments are common. "Sit and Go" tournaments are offered for one, two, five, ten, and twenty tables. Tables seat 8 players for the H.O.R.S.E., Razz, Stud, and Stud Eight or Better format and 9 players for Hold 'Ems and Omaha variations in each in these tournaments, though some have six players per table and are select tournaments/sit n gos which have turbo blinds (to speed up gameplay). There are also heads up "Sit and Go" in both 2-player and split 4-player formats.
